The
spiral wound gasket has an outer and inner metal ring which
holds in place a thin metal spiral, sandwiched with a non-metallic
filler.
EXPANDED PTFE (POLYTETRAFLUOROETHYLENE)
with its special properties is one of the best filler to
take up the flange compression, and compatible with the
working fluid and service conditions. These gaskets are
normally used with raised face flanges. And give an excellent
seal due to the very long leakage path.
